Luke interjected that the tax rate here was averaged out at the same level for about ten years. “So if someone’s taxes have gone up. it's because they’ve acquired more personal wealth.” he said.
Nelson Lane of Woodville added his support for county cars. Noting that school administrators were supplied automobiles, he said that "it would make a whole lot more sense for the sheriff to have vehicles than for someone (to have a car) to drive to work.”
Luke said that school expenses reflected in the preliminary county budget included all requested allocations forwarded by the school board. The only change, he said, involved Title I programs left out of the school board’s budget and added into the preliminary county budget. (Title I programs are funded entirely with federal money.)
