Rappahannock Newt Photo/Daphne Hutchinaoo THREE WEEKS AGO, Ted Triplett had ripe tomatoes, maybe the first in the county, in his 13 acre truck garden. Extension agent Rap Owings wasn’t surprised. Triplett has always been in the front of the line. According to the county agent, he was one of the first farmers in Rappahannock to have a round baler and the very first to try a mechanical apple picker. One of the first in the county to try large scale direct marketing, Triplett will sell bushels of produce directly from his farm on Route 626 near Castleton to local buyers.
