Joan Bloomer, wife of former superintendent of Rappahannock schools William J. Bloomer, has been named principal of Culpeper Junior High School after four years there as assistant principal.
Mrs. Bloomer was indorsed by Culpeper’s retiring superintendent Hubert Monger as well as incoming superintendent Tony Stewart prior to her unanimous selection by the school board Monday evening.
A graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. she also earned a nursing degree from the Medical College of Virginia and attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky, studying religious education.
Currently, she is working toward a doctorate in educational administration and supervision at the University of Virginia.
Bloomer’s job experience includes five years of teaching in .elementary and high school and three years as director of the school of practical nursing at an Emporia high school. She also served as assistant principal of Nelson Junior High School in Arlington and Schuyler Elementary School.
Bloomer recently moved from Sperryville to Culpeper with her husband, now vocational director for Prince William County schools, and their two daughters, Janine who will be a junior at Culpeper High School and (udith Lynne who will be :ntering college in Richmond his fall.
