Making abortion illegal won’t stop women from having abortions any more than prohibition stopped the drinking of alcohol. The recent legislation sponsored by Senator John East, attempting to define the onset of life, is a blatant effort to circumvent the Supreme Court decision that establishes the right of a woman to have an abortion during the first six months of pregnancy. Passage of such legislation would make abortion murder. Setting aside the question of constitutionality how could any government agency enforce such a law? Would we set up a police state of informants and spies? Would we fill our prisons with otherwise law
