Profits generated by the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for the fourth quarter (April through June) of the 1980-81 fiscal year have resulted in distribution of $4,945,740.10 to Virginia’s counties, cities and towns.
The figure represents twothirds of the Department’s profits for the period following statutory adjustments and a one-third distribution to the General Fund of the Commonwealth.
Profits come largely from the sale of distilled spirits, cordials and wines at stateoperated ABC stores. ABC profits are distributed on a per capita basis at the rate of 92.5 cents for the current period.
Counties and cities will also share on a per capita basis $761,692 that was generated from the sale of wine. Under the liter tax, 22 percent of the total tax collected from the sale of wine is earmarked for distribution to counties and cities, and 66 percent of the tax goes to the State General Fund. The remainder is retained by the ABC
