Mrs. Mary Jane Fawcett vill teach the second grade. She holds a B. A. degree from the State University of Mew York and has taught twelve years in New York schools. Dr. Barbara Myatt, the school’s new librarian, holds an Ed D. degree from the University of Georgia, an M. A. in library science from Florida State and a B. S. from the University of Maine. She has taught for seven years at VCU in Richmond. Dr. Myatt will also direct the new foreign language laboratories.
Wakefield's Headmaster, William Lynn, has announced the appointment of Peter Quinn, an instructor there for three years, as the Assistant Headmaster. Quinn is a graduate of the Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia and of Washington and Lee University. He has coached Wakefield’s soccer teams, htfaded the yearbook staff, and served as housemaster for the boys' boarding lodge.
New courses introduced this year will include Russian I and II, Debate, and Spanish IV. The school’s art department will offer a fall course in watercolor instructed by James Bennett, M.F.A., and the school’s first orchestra will be formed under the direction of Mrs. Gloria Harris.
New Wakefield athletic programs will include the inter-scholastic teams of tennis, horse back riding and Lacrosse. A faculty committee is working on the selection of group to represent Wakefield on “It’s Academic" to compete in the Metropolitan area.
Wakefield has also announced that, in conjunction with the Ship School in Canada, it will sponsor a summer program of study in Europe for French and Spanish students.
