Latham interjected that he will continue to serve as an ex officio member until Mrs. Buntin's replacement is found. “According to her, your term is up today—you can’t continue,” Wood said.
Desperate Need “We desperately need him to participate in the selection process (for a new superintendent)," Mrs. Buntain maintained. She noted that Latham has served more than eight years in the post of supervisor representative to the welfare board and knows both the job and its requirements. “We want him to continue to participate in the selection process. We really need his services!” she repeated.
“If you want to appoint someone today, that’s fine with me.” Latham said, adding that he’s no longer willing to be a welfare board member even if he could be named for a third term.
Supervisor Clarence Baldwin nominated H. B. Wood for the post.
"No, no! I won’t accept,” Wood replied, nominating Baldwin instead. “I don’t have the time,” the Hampton District representative countered.
