According to the former welfare department head, she sent Latham who has also served as welfare chairman, a memo in August that purchased services had a shortage. Then she discovered that with the elimination of fuel assistance administration, the supervisors had also dropped ten percent of the salary plus fringe benefits for the senior eligibility worker.
In addition, Mrs. Buntin said she had to revise the entire purchased services program two months ago to bring expenditures in line with a 20 percent reduction in federal funds allocated to the state for that welfare category.
“And we have another problem,” she continued, informing the supervisors that the local welfare department is going to be computerized. The equipment has all been supplied by the state “but we have nothing to put it on...We have to buy a table and a form catcher (for the material that comes out of the printer),” Mrs. Buntin said, at a cost of $320.
She said her computations show $146,097 available for welfare programs from state and federal sources. Subtracted from the total welfare budget of $192,394, that leaves $46,297 that must
