The trustees held that sheriff of Rappahannock was a position covered for retirement. At the same time, however, after making compulsory contributions to the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System for two years while he was sheriff, Buntin was advised in 1978 that he wasn't eligible to participate because he had “attained the age of 60 at date of employment."
