Agriculturr Planning on Seeding Small Grain this Fail? Where has the summer gone? My gosh, before you know it, it will be time to fire up the old wood stove. And if you are planning on seeding barley or wheat this fall, why planting time is almost upon us. One of the main reasons for reduced yields in Rappahannock is late planting.
Optimum seeding time for barley is September 15 to October 10 at l'/i to 2 bushels per acre. Recommended barley varieties for the Northern Piedmont are Barsoy, Henry, Maury, and Volbar, listed in order ol maturity.
Wheat should be seeded October 1 to November 1 al the rate of 1 to V/i bushel: per acre. Varieties that have yielded above average over z period of three years at tesi stations throughout the state are Coker 747, McNair 1003 Wheeler, Tyler, Coker 761 and Potomac.
