ft Lor! Frye During summer vocation, most students are thinking only of working or having a good time. One exception to this rule is Keith Settle who had a very adventurous and informative summer. Keith, a 17 year old senior, had the opportunity to attend Boy’s State at Lynchburg College. For those of you whom are not familiar with it, Boy’s State is a training ground for the potential leaders of tomorrow. Keith had the opportunity to spend a week, along with 700 other academically inclined young men, running a simulatec government.
According to Keith the boys were divided into groups of approximately 65 members. Each group was known as a city. Within these cities, governors, senators, representatives, mayors, sheriffs and other important political figures were elected.
The respective cities were in competition and were awarded either points or demerits for everything from cleanliness to governmental participation. Boone, the city from which Keith was treasurer, was the winning city.
