I ne couple plans to utilize Rappahannock’s natural resources in a specialized curriculum. English classes will focus on appropriate southern literature while history studies will emphasize county history, particularly the acquisition of land for Shenandoah National Park and the culture of the mountain people who were displaced from their homes by that effort.
On weekends, the two teachers will take their charges canoeing on the Shenandoah, backpacking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and sightseeing to places like Monticello.
Both Elsa and Larry believe that the key to the success of this educational experiment lies in finding Rappahannock historians, old timers, crafts persons and artists willing to share their knowledge and skills with young people.
