Set to begin its ninth year of operation, Wakefield School at Huntly opened yesterday with near capacity enrollment, several new faculty members, expanded academic and athletic programs and a new boarding facility for girls.
Already the largest private school in the ten-county area, Wakefield’s enrollment has increased significantly but will stand under the 400 student ceiling set by the school’s trustees.
For the first time the school population will include girl boarding students, who will live at Sommarbeth, a large country house located nearby. A boarding facility for boys was added last year.
New faculty appointments include Francis Laimbeer, Hunt Harrington Harris, Mrs. Margaret Lee, Mrs. Margaret Murtaugh, Mrs. Mary Jane Fawcett and Dr. Barbara Myatt.
