Virginia State Parks will close some facilities immediately after Labor Day and restrict the use of others in order to conserve energy and reduce operating costs. “The reduction in the number of campsites, picnic areas and trails available to the public will probably have a minimum effect on most individuals and groups who normally use parks this time of the year since most parks will still have one picnic area, one campground and some trails open until later into the fall," announced Ben H. Bolen, Commissioner. He further explained that closing down facilities early this season was made necessary by the effects of inflation on energy and other operating costs on park budgets and the early closing would hopefully reduce costs sufficiently to allow all park facilities to be opened for the 1982 season.
