The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has sent us a host of information on picking, freezing, canning, juicing and jelly-ing the grapes that are so plentiful right now. Some of their ideas sound pretty good, so I’m reprinting them here with their permission. If you have a special recipe for grapes that you would like to share with other Rappahannock County cooks, let us know here at the newspaper.

The VDAC calls their publication “A Bunch of Grape Ideas” and they’ve come up with some easy treats like these:

Quickie*

Plop plump grapes in vanilla yogurt or ice cream (from Virginia dairies, of course) and serve in parfait or wine glasses. Garnish with a grape cluster. Or for a light lunch, toss grapes and chopped walnuts in cottage cheese. Add a dash of lemon juice and cinnamon and serve on lettuce leaves.

Make cute fruit kebabs by spearing grapes, apple chunks and cheese cubes with too*11 picks.

For a patriotic dessert, arrange concentric circles of red, white and blue grapes atop a cheesecake.
