development, and living and social skills. Above all, this program allows mentally retarded individuals an opportunity to try new things without fear of failure and rejection. Often a volunteer can help the staff by teaching mentally retarded individuals a skill or craft individually or assist the staff with the daily lesson activities. What this fosters is an improved selfimage, which after all, is the ingredient that allows all people to accomplish many of life’s tasks.
