abortions has never been required. How interesting it is that Mr. Baliles conveniently forgot to mention the fact that in addition to supporting legalized abortion, Baliles voted for public funding of abortion during his term in the legislature!
The allegation that Wyatt Durrette has ever opposed capital punishment is another absolute distortion of fact. After Virginia's capital punishment statutes were held to be unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court, Wyatt Durrette supported the legislation which successfully reinstated the death penalty within the parameters of the Supreme Court decision. His only negative vote on the subject was against a bill based upon his belief that the proposed legislation would not pass constitutional muster. Durrette’s good judgment was later confirmed when the bill he voted against was ruled unconstitutional. Not only has Durrette consistently supported capital punishment in Virginia, it was Wyatt Durrette who proposed the amendment to the present statute which added the killing of a low enforcement officer as a crime for which the death penalty could be imposed.
Wyatt Durrette is proud of his record. His campaign is a positive one in which he has abstained from the type of false and misleading attacks on his opponent in which Mr. Baliles apparently feels compelled to engage. Although Baliles knows these innuendos are deceptive and untrue, he has repeatedly made them during numerous appearances all over the State. In making their choice for Attorney General, voters should ask themselves what kind of person they want to fill that important office.
