St. Pauls has an interesting history. Harold Brown, son of Dr. James Brown of Woodville, said that the land had been set aside for a public • 'rk for Woodville residei However, the rumor got t. ound that the Baptists were about to erect a church on this plot. Captain Walden, an influential local landowner and an Episcopalian, brought a wagonload of lumber to the site and unloaded it. This lumber was used to build St. Paul’s in 1840.
