Laughter is a potent medicine. It’s part of the attraction of the fellowship. “I go to AA meetings five or six times a week. It’s my lifeline. But, to tell the truth, it’s great fun." As a chuckling member explained, “No one's crying in their beer!"
One veteran recalled how a long-time AA member had stopped attending. “She said she’d been going for 20 years and didn’t need it anymore. Didn’t need it? Why I wouldn’t miss my meetings for anything. I see all unfriends. We have a wonderful time. I'm 67 years old now and when I’m 87, I still plan to be here. Maybe I’ll be in a wheelchair and maybe I’ll need a white jacketed attendant to push me around, but, God willing. I’ll be here."
