With our pitifully few commercial establishments barely holding on and unemployment in the county at a high rate, we do, indeed, have a “dismal economic picture.” But why? I suggest that it is because in this county we seem determined to keep it that way.
Our county government, as a matter of policy for vears, has preached and legislated NO DEVELOPMENT. And your editorial posture also is to look through the telescope the wrong way so that the image you see of our county is also small - NO DEVELOPMENT. As a result, our high school graduates each year must continue to look outside the county for jobs and often have to migrate elsewhere, just as was the case when I was a boy 50 years ago.
