GEORGE POLLOCK stayed at the Cabin Inn in Sperryville in his travels to and from the Park. Charles Estes remembers that Pollock used to order two or three fried chickens for dinner and that he always brought along his little dog and his horn. He would go out to the dam on the duck pond at the Cab Inn “and he’d blow his horn, he’d blow his little horn.”

On July 3, 1936, the Park was dedicated and opened. Anibel noted that Skyline Drive was begun before that date but added that the concept of the Park preceeded the building of the Drive.
