Your review of the recent excellent production of Ionesco’s “Rhinoceros” at the Gay Street Theater fails to maximize on the real purpose of the play.

Theater goers might have been interested to know that the preimere of “Rhinoceros” took place in Duesseldorf, Germany, in 1959. It was felt by the audience to depicit the transformation of human beings into Nazis. Ionesco’s friends in his native Rumania were all joining the Facist Iron Guards, leaving the ranks of the thin-skinned humans to join the thick-skinned pachyderms.
