We frequently have to fight off the urge to fire a parting shot at letters to the editors that hit us broadside. We refrain—most of the time— from adding a final “editor’s note” because we believe that our critics deserve an uninterrupted say.
But this week, we have a letter from Robert Eastham that not only merits a reply but actually asks for an answer.
Eastham claims that the county’s current fiscal difficulties are the indirect result of a “no development” policy preached and legislated for years. Thanks to this policy, he maintains, young people have been forced to leave Rappahannock to find jobs because increased private employment has been “deliberately ruled out” here.
