the Bible in his lap, its worn cover buried in the calm of a working man’s hands. “If you’d of asked me where Matt was, I'd say he lived up ^the street.”
Dunphy drove straight home on that eventftil day. “Didn’t stop for nothing,” he recalled.
Home was in Fort Pierce, Florida, then. He burst into the house and told wife Sally all about it. “She thought it’d wear off,” he smiled. “It never has.”
The Dunphys joined a Lutheran Church, and life’s goals—and its meaning—began to take new twists for Dunphy.
In 1978, the family moved to Virginia, built a home in Orlean and joined the Baptist Church there.
“I got baptized, emerged in water,” Dunphy recalled.
