Should Be Calmed

It is arguable that Gov. Chuck Robb, during the last month, has gone through a period of testing as frustrating as any experienced by a Virginia governor in the past decade.
His misadventures have given his partisan and editorial critics a field day. From their pronouncements one would think that anarchy had descended upon Richmond, that the ship of the Commonwealth was about to founder on the shoals of Democratic disorder, and that the fabric of the Robb administration had become frayed to the point of unravelling altogether.
It is time to unscramble this unseemly mish-mash of metaphors and put a few of these events in their proper perspective.
The events include the departure of three of Robb’s top aides and the unexpected resignation of an agency administrator.
