We think we’ll come over for good. Last year, we spent four months at our farm in Rappahannock County.

In Germany, we live 700 yards from the eastern border. We are always living in tension — on one side, the Russian tanks, on the other, the Americans who protect us.

From our property, we can see the Iron Curtain, which consists of three sets of fences. We work continually with the farmers and the Army to protect our property and the property of other farmers.

One of our facilities is on our property. Ninety-three people now live there. There’s a farm where people can work, a garden nursery and we hold workshops for the mentally disabled people who live there, ages ranging from 18 to 93.

The home is now 10 years old. At first, the 500 residents of the town were against it because of the people whom we serve.

Now, they’re very much for it. It supplies much employment. Many friendships between the farmers and residents have developed.

Of course, we won’t be providing housing for the mentally disabled here. Just for elderly people.

We have put forth 75 percent of the money to begin the project. As far as the management decisions of the business are concerned, Sam Snead will have equal say.

Question: Describe the facility located on your property in Germany.

Answer: The home is 1.8 miles from our house on our farm.

We restored a 16th century farm building, and added a residential wing.

The farm continues to be agriculturally productive. The buildings provide a needed service for the locality.

Of the 35 people employed there, 28 come from the local village.

We have central water, five villages share the same reservoir, but we have no central sewage treatment.
