The superintendent says, “We’re training the teachers in special methods for dealing with the summer program.” How many teachers are being trained? Will other teachers and students benefit?
The Special Programs coordinator says, “The teachers are doing it every day. It’s just that some of them don’t realize it.” Does this sound like a coordinated “Program?”
The budgeting for the Gifted and Talented program is baffling. For the second year in a row, the SPC has had a carryover of more than $60,000 (enough to hire four teachers)—yet when asking about supplies, I was informed by the SPC that the budget was very “tight,” and to spend as little as possible. I personally spent $13 to provide special pens for the children. Their composition books were “borrowed” from the High School Art Teacher.
