I have just completed a comparison study regarding rescue service with an adult care facility of 110 beds located in Prince William County. Based on rescue calls to this facility, I have concluded that Washington’s rescue calls will increase 30 to 35 percent, or about three calls n month. While 36 calls over a year’s time may not sound like very much, this is what it would mean to us: 220 man hours (or 5.6 work weeks), $2,400 in operation and equipment costs (25 percent of our rescue budget), 2,000 additional miles to our ambulance each year.
It will mean extra work, lost sleep and family hours lost by our already small membership For the community, it would mean fewer hours that we would be available to respond to its needs and, of course, an insrease of the fire siren’g use.
