The water in the pond is clear. We raise about 500 pounds of fish in it annually that are eaten by us, the staff, people who live in the facility and in the village. Question: Once the adult home in Harris Hollow is begun, what will your involvement be? Answer: We came to the United States seven times last year in the planning stages of the facility. When the facility here opens, we will stay longer, and later on, hope to become permanent residents. We will make sure that the home is working well, and provides a service to the people. I will bring my know-how and teach it to Sam. We’ll share these responsibilities. I will learn more about the people here from Sam. Sam and I will share in administering and managing the home. Question: Once the project includes 120 people, will you expand in Harris Hollow? Answer: No. You can’t put too many people in one place. The service would be impersonal. We want a familylike atmosphere. Question: Are you a citizen of the United States? Answer: No. I am a German citizen. It’s difficult to become an American citizen, and takes about 10 years. My wife’s mother has been attempting to gain citizenship for 30 years. She was bom of an American mother. The U.S. laws at that time did not confer citizenship to a child of an American mother, although they do now. Both of my wife’s aunts are Americans, living in Florida. Question: How long have you owned property in Rappahannock County? Answer: We purchased a farm in Amissville, Virginia, five years ago, and are currently actively farming it. We like it here, and hope to spend more and more time here. We’ve found a lot of friends here, and everybody has been nice and helpful. We really feel at home here.
