For the post few months I hove sat on the sidelines regarding the proposed adult care facility to be located in Harris Hollow. During these months I have been weighing the impact of such a facility, not in terms of an environmental impact, but in terms of fire and rescue protection for our community, for the adult care facility, and for the Washington Volunteer Fire Department At this time as Chief of the WVFD, I must state to you my reservations and strong objection to such facility being situated at its proposed location.
I have spoken with Mr. Snead regarding the fire protection for his facility and have discussed what I felt were his intentions with a fire plans reviewer from another jurisdiction. I can only conclude that as far as state fire codes are concerned, Mr. Snead’s buildings will carry a residential occupancy. This means in' terms of fire protection, that the building will not require a sprinkler system, a stand pipe system, an alarm system, or even a single fire hydrant!
