Charles Edward “Ned" Johnson, 79, a retired - flamer and orchanUst, died Thursday, June 14,1964, at hi* residence at Sperryville.
A native of Rappahannock County, Mr. Johnson was born in Sperryville on July 24, 1904, son of the late Charles Edward and Susie Wood Johnson. He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy and Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1926, and was a Jaclcson-Hope Medalist.
Mr. Johnson was chairman of the board of Rappaliannock National Bank and a member of the board of the Rappahannock Fire Insurance Company, of which he previously had been president.
He also served on the boards of the State Horti- A cultural Society, Virginia State Apple Commission, Virginia Farm Bureau and Rappahannock County Farm Bureau, and was a former board member of the Shenandoah Apple Growers Co-operative.
Mr. Johnson was one of the organizers of the Rappahannock County Fruit Growers Co-op, Rappahannock Cold Storage and Blue Ridge Fruit Growers.
He was a member of the original Rappahannock County Planning Commission, deacon and former treasurer of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church and co-author of Rappahannock County History.
Survivors include his wife, Elisabeth Brandi Johnson, two children, Elisabeth Johnson Jones of Sperryville and C. E. Johnson III of Fort Myers, Fla., four grandchildren and a brother, F. D. Johnson of Nags Head, N. C.
Funeral services were conducted at the Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church in Sperryville on Saturday, June 16, by the Rev. Douglas Farmer and the Rev. Paul Thompson. Burial was in the Johnson family cemetery in Sperryville.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Sperryville Rescue Squad or VMI Foundation, VMI, Lexington, Va. c
Arrangements were handled by Gore Funeral Home in Culpeper.
Clarence Aylor
Retired Chef
Clarence Oliver Aylor, 78, of Sperryville, died Sunday, June 17, 1964, in Culpeper Memorial Hospital He was a retired chef.
Survivors indude one brother, Reginald Aylor of Washington; two foster daughters, Mrs. Nettie Fields of Orange and Mrs. Janet Coleman of Forrestville, Md.; one foster son, David Andes of Sperryville, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, 1984 at 1 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Sperryville. The Rev. U. S. Brokenburr of Washington, D. C., will officiate. Interment will be at Culpeper National Cemetery.
Viewing will be from noon until the hour of service on Thursday at Hopewell Baptist Church.
