Rappahannock residents and educators have reason to be proud of their school system these days. For the second consecutive year, Rappahannock County High School (RCHS) is among the top scoring schools in Virginia’s Minimum Competency Tests, this year ranking 4th in the state.
The competency tests, which measure reading and math skills, primarily are taken by students during their sophomore year. The state requires every student to pass the tests before a high school diploma can be awarded.
Rappahannock students achieved a composite score of 98.9 this year, which means that 98.9 percent of RCHS students who took the tests passed both. In the reading test, 100 percent passed; in math, 98.9 passed.
