As in previous years, students from four counties participated: Culpeper, Madieon, Orange and Rappahannock.

Gifted, Talented Preview
Actually, the gifted and talented rhnsrir now in progress at the elementary school offer a glimpse of the program that will begin this foil in Rappahannock schools.
The program, however, isn’t carved hi stone-yet.
Presently, the state only has issued guidelines for gifted and talented programs. Those guidelines should become mandates later this summer, before the new school year begins.
According to Pam Rowe, coordinator of special services for Rappahannock schools, the gifted and talented program as conceived by the state primarily will take place in the classroom, and become part of a student’s normal classroom routine.
This is the type of gifted program presented to the state board of education by John Booth, director of gifted programs for die state,” Rowe explained. “Mr. Booth believes that 96 percent (of the instruction) should take place in the classroom, and five percent outside.”
