Grymes Memorial School held dosing exercises in dnPont Hall on Wednesday evening, June 6.
Distinguished Service Awards recently established by the Board of Trustees were presented to A. Willis Browning of Chadd’s Ford, Pa., grandfather of Meg Daniel, Class of ’84, and former Headmaster Joseph Y. Rowe of Woodberry Forest. Board Chairman Bruce F. Herndon recognized Mary Anna S. Lawler, who retired from the faculty after 30 years service.
Eighth graders receiving certificates from Board Chairman Bruce Herndon were Conrad Adams, Brian Kirby and Danielle Phillips of Fredericksburg; Kacey Aitken, Aiden Burke, Elizabeth duFrane, Gordon Holloway and Susan Chapman of Culpeper, Meg Daniel of Rochelle; Teddy Davies and Mary Grayson Gillespie of Woodberry Forest; Caroline Goddard and Heather Kilpatrick of Rappahannock; Jennifer McGuire, Sara Somerville and Leith Spieden of Somerset; John Goodwin, David Smith and Dorothy Sullenberger of Orange, and Darren Wade of Rapidan.
Salutatorian Mary Grayson Gillespie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Gillespie of Woodberry Forest, and valedictorian David K. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. 0. Kendall Smith of Orange, spoke at the ceremony.

The Tyler Award for scholarship, integrity, and leadership went to David Smith. The Rose Burgess Hastings Award for academic excellence and moral integrity was presented to Mary Grayson Gillespie and Dorothy Sullen
