What recommendation would the engineers make for on-ground procedures for locating proper placement of each septic tank.
The board discussed concerns expressed by Sperryville residents at the June 27 public meeting at the Sperryville Fire Hall.
“Our job is to provide this service,” said Bob Dennis, WSA Chairman. “If people think they should be excluded from the system, then they should get an exception from the health department or State Water Control Board.”
Baumgardner reminded the Authority members that 100 percent of Sperryville wells had been marked as not approved by the health department. “This is a pretty telling statistic,” he said.
The board also discussed what to do about homes without existing bathrooms. (A previous grant had provided bathrooms to some homes as a step in dealing with the health hazard.)
Carson Johnson said that some of the landowners renting out homes to tenants had not met the income qualifications for bathroom construction. In these cases, the Authority would still install the lines and septic tanks but the owner would have to put in a bathroom or face closing by the Health Department.
