too dense a population. The Johnson’s keep their population relatively small, bring in fish once a month, and urge the trout to be competitive. “The more competitive, the firmer they are,” stated Tom as he threw them a handful of Purina trout chow and watched them jump out of the water.
Tom says that many Rappahannockians fish at his farm. “It’s an easy and inexpensive way to have a fresh fish dinner, and many people don’t have their own ponds or right of way mi a river or stream.” Many of their trout are 18-20 inches and more, Johnson explains.
What’s the hardest thing about his occupation, Johnson was asked. “Pulling teeth,” Kay said with a grin.
