Jeans never started a new religion. Another religion is me commodity the world did not need. It’s true, there have since been countless attempts to construct a system of religion upon the teachings of Jesus. However, religion is far too predictable and restrictive to contain the likes of Jesus.
Religious systems tend to divide people; sometimes across a battlefield. But Jesus tried to bring people together; to break down the walls of bigotry and misunderstanding. Religion tends to make us stoic and exclusive. But Jesus came to make us sensitive and accessible; to open up our faces.
As a matter of fact, it was Jesus’ shattering expose of the religion of his day that assured his own execution. It was the devoutly religious who put Jesus to death. The words of Simon Peter are to the point: “(You) killed the prince of life.”
