Six teachers already have a handle on the program.
For the second consecutive year, these teachers have conducted the gifted and talented summer program now in session at the elementary school.
The teachers are: Lynne Baines, Denise Cline, Candace Lamms, Deborah Mills, Lynn Myrtle and Dawn Welch.
Creative Problem Solving — devised by the individual teaches and approved by administrators — places students in problem situations without offering solutions.
In Mrs. Baines class, for example, students recently were asked to roll newspapers and create a three-foot high table that would support the weight of a school book.
It’s a lesson in thinking and problem solving on higher levels that Baines has posed to students before.
“It’s quite an experience,” she said, noting that this class was more frustrated by the project than previous classes finally resorted to more newspaper rolls and the heretofore unauthorized use of tape.
