Voter Registration To Begin Rappahannock's annual voter-registration drive begins this week, county registrar Ruth Kilby reports. The purpose is to make it easy for county residents to register to vote by providing special-registration hours in locations throughout the county. In Virginia, a person registered to vote must vote at least once every four yean to keep his or her name from being removed from state voter-registration files. Residents can register during the next nine Friday evenings at any of these locations: a Sperryville Fire Hall, Aug. 3,6-7 p.m. a Scrabble, Burke’s Store, Aug. 10,6-7 p.m. a Washington, Courthouse, Aug. 17,6-7 p.m. a Chester Gap Fire Hall, Aug. 24,6-7 p.m. a AmissviDe Fire Hall, Aug. 31,6-7 p.m. a Flint Hill Fire Hall, Sept. 7,6-7 p.m. a Castleton Fire Hall, Sept. 14,6-7 p.m. a Rappahannock National Bank, Sept. 21,6-7 p.m. a Flint Hill, F&M Bank, Sept. 28,4-7 p.m. The last day to register before elections is October 6, Mrs. Kilby reports. Registration must be completed in person. The office of the registrar is open in Washington Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

• Guest On Road-Funding Subcommittee Seventh District Delegate Raymond “Andy” Guest has been appointed to a joint subcommittee to study the state’s road-funding formula, according to a July 23 report from the delegate’s Front Royal office. "We must fight to preserve the fair distribution of highway construction monies. There are very few rural members on the committee or in the legislature,” Guest said. The font meeting of the subcommittee is scheduled August 22 in Richmond. • Shots ‘Heard’ Were Rumor An alleged shooting in the Rock Mills area July 29 was a rumor, according to Sheriff John Henry Woodward. The sheriff confirmed there was a domestic problem in the area and two misdemeanors were issued. No shots were fired, however, and there was no evidence guns were involved.
