At an afternoon school board meeting July 23, the Rappahannock School Board opened two bids for the roof rebuilding at the Elementary School.
Texas Roofing Company submitted a price of $157,700 for the tapered roof; Martin Construction Company proposed a figure of $134,144. Both estimated a fifty-day completion date.
Superintendent Robert Estabrook pointed out that both amounts were above the sum appropriated by the supervisors for the repair project.
Board members voted to accept the lower bid and to advise the supervisors that the project would require more money.
Lowell Baughan, the architect advising the board on this project, was directed to call the low bidder, Martin Construction Co., and confirm the price. This extra caution was taken becauae of mistakes in the past on Martin’s part, two of which had resulted in V rebidding of the project. Baughan did so and reported that everything was in order.
Food Supply Bids
