• Amissville 4-Hero Sought by Carson Johnson County extension agent Florence Vickers is looking for prospective 4-H participants in the Amissville area in order to begin a community dub. Children and teenagers ages 9 to 19 are welcome, Vickers notes. Meetings, camps, picnics, special trips, community services and learnby-doing projects are among many 4-H activities. • Winery Week August 5-11 Virginia Governor Charles Robb has declared August 5-11 “Virginia Farm Winery Week” in recognition of this growing state industry. A highlight of the week will occur August 11 in Orlean at the Virginia Wineries Festival. The festival will take place at Piedmont Vineyards and Winery, with the annual grape-stomping contest beginning at 11:80 a.m. Fifteen wineries and 28 craftspeople from throughout Virginia are scheduled to participate, rain or shine. Winery tours, carriage rides, food, music and more are planned. Tickets are 87.60 in advance; |9 on the day of the festival. There’s no admission for children under 18.
