Robb: A Prophet
Without Honor

Gov. Chuck Robb’s address to the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco should have received Car more attention than it was given. The speech was remarked upon in this space last week, but more needs to be said.
According to the printed program Robb was scheduled to introduce the 35 Democratic governors to the convention. Hiis, of course, he did. But he went much further in his substantive remarks than had been anticipated. When they had been fully digested, the reaction among some of the Democratic constituent groups ranged from mildly upset to hopping mad.
What Robb did was spell out the direction which he thought the party should take if its candidates at the national level were to have the same degree of success it eiyoyb in the states. In addition to claiming 35 of the 50 governorships, the Democrats control both houses in 34 state legislatures and one house in six others.
