Mrs. Donald grows her blackberries right in the garden and says “they’re as big as your thumb.” She stems, washes and crushes berries, one layer at a time. She extracts juice by placing the crushed berries in several layers of cheesecloth and pressing the juice out.
Mrs. Donald proceeds, using the directions with commercial fruit pectin, with three and one-half cups of berries, five cups of sugar, and one box of commercial powdered fruit pectin.
