George Alther
County Native
George Alther, 95, of Sperryville, died Friday, February 1 at Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal.
A native of Rappahannock County, he was the son of Jake and Mary Blanche Bruce Alther. His wife was the late Lillian Clatterbuck Alther. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Irene Frazier and Mrs. Alice Ralls, both of Sperryville and Miss Nellie Alther of Falls Church; three sons, Levi Alther of Washington, Roy Alther and Johnny Alther, both of Sperryville; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Virgie Pullen of Sperryville and Miss Ollie Alther of Washington, D.C.
Mr. Alther was predeceased by a son, George William Alther, who died in 1955.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday at Geest-Johnson Funeral Home in Culpeper by the Rev. Kirby Shenk. Burial was in Washington Masonic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jonas Alther, Steve Alther, Roy Alther, Wade Frazier, Dennis Ralls, Jr., Eddie Frazier, Wilson Burke and Thomas Taylor.
