Equine bill
passes House
The House version of a bill needed to establish a Virginia Equine Center Foundation breezed through on Saturday with a vote of 96-0.
The bill, sponsored by Del. Raymond R. “Andy” Guest Jr. (R-Fauquier/Clarke/Rappahannock/W arren), is similar to one that was introduced in the Senate by Stn. Howard P. Anderson (D-Halifax). That measure passed unanimously in the Senate, although some senators said they were concerned about how the center would be financed.
A 361-acre tract in Rockbridge County has been selected for the center.
About $200,000 has been allocated for the center from the state budget, and another $700,000 has been raised privately.
Blue light bill passes
The House counterpart of a bill that would change the color of flashing lights on police cars in the state from red to blue passed in the House Saturday by a vote of 92-8.
The measure, sponsored by Del. Franklin M. Slayton (D-South Boston), is similar to one introduced in the Senate by Sen. Charles L. Waddell (DLoudoun/Fairfax). Sen. Waddell’s bill cleared the Senate, 28-11.
