Here the narrative begins. “I spent four months during the summer of 82 in Alaska hitching around, camping and meeting people, some of whom had settled homestead lands in the early 70’s,” Andy said. After spending some time in a teepee in the Wrangle Mountains 100 miles from Alaska, Andy decided to seek a warmer climate and joined some new-found friends on a flight to Hawaii, Fiji, Australia and New Zealand. There, Andy explored both the North and South Islands.

She went back to Alaska for the summer and autumn; this time to the Arctic Circle in the Brooks Range. She took the haul road to the oil rigs in Prudoe Bay, and a friend with a sled dog and equipment met her there and together they walked the 60 miles across the tundra.
