Rapp’k Man Seriously Hurl
Philip Register of Washington was seriously hurt last Saturday night when he lost control of a 1986 Nissan pick-up truck on the Washington bypass (Rt. 211), a half mile west of Rt. 626.
Register, who was pinned in the truck for over an hour, was taken to Fauquier Hospital and immediately transferred to the Washington, D.C. Hospital Center.
Other passengers in the car, Phillip Fletcher and Glenn Fletcher, both of Washington, were treated at Fauquier Hospital and released.
• Important Budget Dates
In their April 1 meeting the supervisors opted to postpone discussion of the proposed 1985-86 school budget until their joint meeting with the school board on Tuesday, April 9 in the elementary school at 8:00 p.m.
Other dates concerning both the school and overall budgets are:
April 29 - public hearing at 7:30 p.m. in the elementary school on the school budget
May 6 - regular supervisors meeting at which the school budget will be approved
June 3 - regular supervisors meeting and public hearing on the overall budget
June 24 - meeting at 10:00 a.m. in the courthouse to adopt the overall budget.
• Keep Va. Beautiful Weeks
Governor Charles S. Robb has signed a Certificate of Recognition setting aside the period of April 8 - 20, 1985 as KEEP VIRGINIA BEAUTIFUL WEEKS.
In doing so, the Governor urged “all citizens, businesses, industries, organizations and governmental agencies to unite in an intensified effort to combat littering during that period in order that we may have a cleaner, more beautiful state.”
For more than 30 years, Keep Virginia Beautiful has been a unifying force to bring all elements of society together to improve the environment through litter prevention.
Keep Virginia Beautiful is a privately supported litter control effort working cooperatively with state government through the State Division of Litter Control.
All Virginians are called upon to make a special effort during the two weeks designated to enhance the beauty of Virginia.
• Trout Season Opens April 6
The Virginia trout fishing season opens at 12:00 noon on April 6 with the usual near-carnival atmosphere expected as crowds line stream banks in celebration of spring.
After the midday opener, fishing is permitted from 5:00 a.m. until an hour after sunset.
Anglers 16 and over will need the usual state fresh-water fishing license, $7.50, and those planning to fish in stocked streams or lakes will need an additional $4 license. Licenses are for sale at the county clerk’s office and other agencies.
Trout must be at least 7 inches long to be kept, with a maximum limit of six fish per day. Most of the fish stocked by the Virginia Fish Commission are at least 7 inches, and many are much larger.
On opening day a section of the Rose River in Madison County will be reserved for children to fish in. The three-quarter-mile stretch is along Route 670 between Criglersville and Syria. Children 12 and under will not need a license to fish here on opening day. Parents may accompany their children but cannot fish. There are many good picnic sites along the stream.
