The recent rash of letters to the editor complaining of the litter problem on Route 622 off 211 prompted us to inspect the site ourselves to see if the horror stories were true.

Our eyes are stained. We hereby declare an emergency situation and recommend that the area be held in quarantine for an indefinite period.

We are of course kidding but just barely. The litter on Route 622 is appalling. This is especially disheartening when witnessing first hand that, aside from the litter, Gid Brown Hollow is'Eden itself, truly one of the very beautiful places in Rappahannock. Granted there are many.

A glance at the roadsides along 622, however, spoils the illusion of paradise. Trash is everywhere.

What does it matter now who the culprits are? The damage is done, maybe by visitors, as was assumed in a recent letter, maybe not. We don’t know.
