Rappahannock to
study sludge
The Rappahannock Board of Supervisors, after a public hearing during its regular meeting April 1, enacted a temporary moratorium on the application of sludge originating from outside the county.
The action is intended to buy time while the county conducts a study on the capacity of land in Rappahannock for sludge application.
Planners want to
monitor sludge
The Fauquier Planning Commission last week recommended approval of a county-administered program that would monitor the. use of sewage sludge on farmland.
After a brief public hearing last Thursday, the planners recommended by a 4-1 vote that sludge haulers be charged $4 for every acre on which they apply the farm fertilizer substitute. They further recommended sludge haulers label the contents of trucks used to transport sludge and the trucks be water tight.
