Last year, in an effort to entice entries, the Old Dominion Hunt offered purses for several of the races at its point-to-point meet at Ben Venue.
Having had a very successful meet, in part as a result of offering purses for the first time at a point-to-point meet in Virginia, Old Dominion will once again offer purses this year.
The maiden hurdle, open hurdle and novice timber races will each have a purse of $1,000. Strong fields have been entered for all three of these races and the open hurdle should be a particularly exciting contest.
Heading the list of seven entries in the $1,000 open hurdle race is Mrs. Michael Sanger’s 1984 Virginia Horse of the Year over Fences, Uncle Edwin. This 8-year-old Quadravan gelding won at Morven Park and Great Meadow last year and is likely to be a hard horse to beat.
